DeLalio Elementary School Purpose Statement
DeLalio Elementary School is committed to providing student-centered learning opportunities where individual needs are met in a nurturing and supportive environment that encourages collaboration and creativity as students think critically about the world around them.
DeLalio Elementary School, located on the Marine Corps Air Station at New River, Jacksonville, North Carolina, is a close knit community. It is one of seven schools in the Camp Lejeune Community Schools system and the only school on New River Air Station. DeLalio Elementary is a vital part of the Air Station community and serves as a source of support and social interaction for the families stationed here. Most military ranks are represented by the families aboard the Air Station, housing for enlisted, officers, civilians, and retirees.
The staff at DeLalio Elementary normally serves approximately 130-150 children in grades PK-5. Staffing commonly consists of the following: an Administrator, a Secretary/Registrar, a school-year Office Clerk, a School Support Assistant, three Custodians, and two Food Management employees. There are nine Classroom Teachers, an Advanced Academic Programs & Services (AAPS) Teacher, two Special Education Teachers, an Art Teacher, Physical Education Teacher, Music Teacher, Information Specialist, Strategic Literacy Specialist, School Counselor, Educational Technologist, School Nurse, and six Educational Aides. Some of our students also receive services from a shared School Psychologist, Speech Language Pathologist, Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, and/or an ESOL Teacher.
DeLalio provides a nurturing environment for the military families stationed aboard MCAS. The importance of providing a stable environment for these children is paramount due to the fact that their parents can be deployed at a moment’s notice, and many of the parents have had multiple deployments during the last few years. Being a school of many diverse cultures greatly enhances student academic and social skills. The Home/School Partnership program provides for parental and community involvement. Volunteers provide countless hours to ensure success for all children. DeLalio students and staff are actively involved in a myriad of events at military functions located at New River and Camp Lejeune as well as community events in the surrounding area. The principal of DeLalio feels the challenge is to ensure that the school mission reflects the learning skills and abilities students will need to succeed in a global society. During times of emergency, the swift support and efficient system of the New River Air Station and DeLalio safety staff is evident. District wide Crisis Management Services are made available when needed. Our Continuous School Improvement (CSI) team continues to work toward the standards provided by Cognia. The CSI coordinates and provides staff development opportunities to our staff. Additionally, we continue to update our data as it becomes available to reflect accuracy in our school profile.
DeLalio has a variety of School Partnerships to include: MALS-29; MALS-26; Young Marines; PTA; Parent Volunteers; Coastal Carolina Community College; University of North Carolina-Wilmington; FOCUS; S.O.A.R; MFLC; School Liaison; Navy Regional Medical Center; Red Cross; MP’s; and K-9.
